Body Surface Area Calculator

Use this body surface area calculator (BSA calculator) to compute total body surface area in square meters (m²) using Mosteller, DuBois, and Haycock formulas for clinical dosage indexing.

How to use this calculator

  1. Select your unit system (metric or imperial).
  2. Enter height and weight.
  3. Compare BSA results across Mosteller, DuBois, and Haycock equations.

Formula & method

Mosteller & DuBois BSA Formulas

Mosteller BSA = √((Height(cm) × Weight(kg)) ÷ 3600)

DuBois BSA = 0.007184 × Height(cm)^0.725 × Weight(kg)^0.425.

Example

Height 175 cm, Weight 70 kg → Mosteller BSA = √((175 × 70) / 3600) ≈ 1.84 m².

Key insights

How to interpret your result

Mosteller BSA

Standard clinical BSA estimation method.

DuBois BSA

Historical reference formula for metabolic indexing.

Frequently asked questions

Why use BSA instead of weight for drug dosing?
